"The locations of Antonio Prado and Caxias do Sul cidades are similar with respect to the major vegetation region boundary between the forests and the grasslands on the north east and east respectivelly... In early days, Antonio Prado had an advantage with respect to location relative to Vacaria and other larger markets farther to the north... In 1937, a new road between Vacaria and Porto Alegre cidades, passing through Galópolis, Caxias do Sul and São Marcos distritos was completed... The effect was immediate as is seen in the population loss in Antonio Prado cidade..." (Stuart Clark Rothwell, The Old Italian Colonial Zone of Rio Grande do Sul, p. 66-67).
